Why rhinoplasty is unusually hard to shop for abroad
Rhinoplasty combines three things that make medical travel tricky. First, the result is judged late. The minimum stay is the same everywhere
Whatever the destination, the clock after surgery is set by your body, not by the airline. The CDC Yellow Book (2026) cites the ASPS recommendation to wait 7 to 10 days after facial, eyelid or nose procedures before flying, and the NHS (reviewed 2022) gives the same 7 to 10 day window for facial procedures. ASPS describes splints, packing or bandages inside and outside the nose in the early period, and your surgeon will want to see you before you leave.
That window costs roughly the same number of nights wherever you go, but what each night costs, and how long the flight home is with a healing nose, varies a lot between these five. A long-haul return after rhinoplasty is more demanding than a short one, so ask your surgeon specifically about the flight you'll be taking.
Plan for the second look
Because the nose keeps refining for up to a year, the moment you judge the result, and decide whether a revision is needed, comes long after you've flown home. Before choosing a destination, ask each surgeon:
- How will you review my result at 3, 6 and 12 months: photos, video, or an in-person visit?
- What's your revision policy? What does it cover (surgeon, facility, anesthesia), and for how long?
- If a revision is needed, how long should I wait, and would I need to travel back?

A revision policy is worth much less if using it means a 20-hour journey. Distance is a real cost in rhinoplasty, even when the surgery price is lower.
